Martin J. Lieberman

Martin J. Lieberman, CPA/ABV, ASA, CFF, is a Partner and head of the Litigation Services Group at Lieberman LLP. A professional with more than 30 years of business valuation, forensic accounting, and tax experience, Mr. Lieberman established Lieberman LLP and its litigation support and consulting practice. Previously, he was a partner at Weiser LLP, heading up their Business Valuation/Forensic Accounting Group. He also spent nine years at Deloitte & Touche as Senior Manager in their real estate services practice.

Mr. Lieberman has served clients in a broad range of valuation and economic damage calculation assignments, including shareholder dissent suits, contract damage claims, divorce and tax disputes as well as criminal court cases. He also consults with clients on intangible asset values including intellectual property for business transactions as well as litigation and financial statement preparation. Mr. Lieberman has been qualified as an expert witness in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut courts.

Mr. Lieberman’s areas of focus encompass three primary industries: technology-based growth companies, financial companies, and service companies. Additionally, he has developed an eclectic practice covering a wide range of services and industries. As head of a staff of accredited appraisers and forensic experts, Mr. Lieberman and his group provide litigation support services associated with shareholder issues, contract disputes, divorce actions, and criminal prosecutions. He and his team also prepare valuations of discounts associated with gifts of minority interests, trademark and licensing valuations, pre-IPO stock option valuations, purchase price allocations, and business valuations related to tax matters and financial reporting. As an expert witness, Mr. Lieberman has provided testimony for shareholder appraisal rights litigation, bankruptcy proceedings, breach of contract damage calculations, and copyright infringement suits.

Mr. Lieberman is a former President of the American Society of Appraisers – NYC Chapter and is currently a District Director and Membership Chairman. He is active in the New York State Society of CPAs. Mr. Lieberman is a frequent speaker at technical conferences, serves as editor of business valuation articles in the CPA Journal, and is the former Chairman of The Annual Business Valuation Conference sponsored by the NYSSCPA. He earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College and his M.B.A. in Finance from Baruch College. Mr. Lieberman holds AICPA Accreditation in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) specialty designations. He is also an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with the American Society of Appraisers.
